Dental Services in Hamilton – Do You Know The Drill?

Posted on July 4, 2018 in Uncategorized

Putting off a dental appointment can literally make or break of your teeth, so why are so many people neglecting their dental hygiene?

There is no simple answer but many sources suggest that the main reason people delay seeing a dentist is because of an irrational fear. ‘A fear of what?’ Is it a fear of a Dickensian dentist? Or of their more alarming Kubrickian methods? You can relax about those ideas, we don’t visit the barber shop for surgery anymore and times have significantly changed. Perhaps you have a fear of being told that your oral hygiene isn’t up to scratch, or that the drill might have to make an appearance? If you keep to your regular dental care routine then you can keep that terrifying drill at bay but any healthy oral hygiene routine should include a visit to a quality dentist at least every six months! If you’re taking your car to a mechanic more often than you’re taking yourself to a dental practice then read on; hopefully a quick run through of the basic standard procedures should tackle any phobias. Now let’s see if we can get you in the chair as soon as possible!

As soon as you’ve left the waiting room and in the chair, the examination begins. You can relax; you’re in safe hands. The dentist will be sure to give your mouth, teeth and gums an overall examination before tackling anything too specific. A quality dentist will check your teeth for decay, examine your gums for any traces of disease and pay attention to your head and neck. They will also study your bite, jaws, joints and even your facial expressions; they do this to look out for any abnormalities that may need investigating further.

After the dentist has given you a once over, the fun begins; they will start to give you a decent, deep clean. Dentists do this, no matter how well you brush your teeth at home, because they can clean your teeth in ways that you could never do yourself and you’ll be surprised to find out what you miss!

A quality dentist will take their time cleaning your teeth, searching for and eradicating plaque and tartar. If allowed to build up, these nasty ailments can really irritate your gums and cause some serious damage that could lead to gum disease. The clean also get’s rid of hard to reach food particles, deals with effects of sugary drinks and tries to remove tobacco stains too. You can expect to hear your dentist mention more than once that flossing is good for your teeth, that you should avoid fizzy drinks and keep away from those cigarettes too!

One of the best dental services that you can take advantage of is a decent polish; this service makes your teeth shine with a new brightness and allows for a smoother service which stops plaque and other bacteria taking purchase.
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the dentist and you haven’t particularly taken good care of your teeth, the dentist will conduct a series of small tests; these tests could be more thorough examinations or your gums and mouth tissues, searching for diseases of it might mean an x-ray or two, searching for hidden cavities and things that the human eye can’t detect.

A trip to your local dental practice can be as simple as that. If you were expecting something traumatic, put those fears to rest. Even if you’re in need of a second visit for something more drastic, remember that you’re in safe hands and it’s better to deal with a problem rather than ignore it until it does become something to fear!

Dental services are important for all types of people and at any age. From the moment you are a child, to the time you have your own children, seeing the dentist will always be a part of your life. By keeping up with your dental hygiene you can prevent future health problems and enjoy a handsome smile. Here are some of the services a dental office can offer you and your family.

The first and most necessary service is a thorough examination of your mouth and history. A comprehensive examination will familiarize both you and you doctor with what you need to do to maintain and obtain a healthy smile. This guided tour will point out things like your wisdom teeth and when or if they need to be pulled. This is done by x-rays taken from all angles of your mouth. During the time they are looking in your mouth they will be able to recognize cavities and other problem areas. In summary, it will get you, your doctor, and your dental health status all on the same page.

After your first visit and examination is said and done, you and your dentist will discuss and decide what actions should be taken in order to make your smile both healthy and attractive. Typically, your first visit will include a cleaning as well. During this process they will remove all plaque from your teeth and do (and show you the correct way of) flossing. They will help you build and understand a healthy habit of daily brushing and flossing. These two things alone will be the most important things you can do for your smile.

The most popular dental service is tooth whitening. It isn’t uncommon for people to want a whiter smile, and every office should offer this service. There is more than one way to do this and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to sit in the office to get your teeth whitened. Take home whitening kits are available. The process should only take an hour and it is highly recommended to use products like approved and tested Opalescence products.

These are just a few of the highlighted services you will find at a dentist’s office. A nice treat too about going for you visits is they send you home with a little goody bag of dental floss, a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth wash, and things of that nature. That will vary depending on the office you go to.
